YouTuber Melonie Mac draws flak for her homophobic comments on Twitter
Melonie describes herself as a “devout Christian” and hence occasionally targets gays and other members of the LGBTQ+ community. Her most recent homophobic slurs have angered online users. This controversial Twitter drama started on June 19 after Melonie retweeted a post about streamer xQc’s rise to fame. The tweet was posted by the Twitter user ‘YourFellowArab’ and it highlighted xQc calling out someone with a homophobic slur in the early days of his streaming career.
The Twitter user talked about the futility of cancel culture by comparing xQc’s tweet to his incredible $100 million deal with the Kick streaming platform. “Remember that next time you think getting canceled is real,” Arab had said.
Melonie retweeted this post and also repeated xQc’s previously used slur in the caption. Knowing that her actions might draw criticism and even cause serious repercussions, Melonie followed this up with another tweet saying, “I’m going to bed, if I get banned tomorrow just follow me on Instagram. Yolo. Goodnight fags.”
Many fans were outraged by her actions and some like Nel, The Internet’s dad, said that they would be removing mutual connections who followed the controversial YouTuber.
Melanie has even called the LGBTQ+ community a “contagion” which is spreading and indoctrinating children on one of her previous live streams. It remains to be seen if YouTube takes any actions against Melanie for her homophobic comments.
