xQc has been banned on Twitch. This ban is reportedly for streaming the Olympics: Felix “xQc” Lengyel, a Twitch streamer, was banned from the platform on Wednesday for unlawfully streaming the Olympics on his channel. The streamer has a following of 6 million people and is one of the most popular on the platform.
XQc was banned from Twitch today after watching Olympic highlights, which he claims got him “live DMCA’d”. This is not the first time Xqc got banned from Twitch, this is his second ban of this year. Since the start of 2020, the Canadian streamer has been banned from Twitch four times. In March 2020, he received his first three-day suspension from the platform. The one following that lasted barely a few months and was only for a single day.
In a statement on Twitter, he clarified: “I THINK I GOT MY CHANNEL LIVE-DMCA’d. I TOOK THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FINE. REALLY DIDN’T EXPECT IT BUT I COUL’VE EASILY AVOIDED THIS. SORRY FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED INCLUDING THE VIEWERS. I’LL BE BETTER/SMARTER NEXT TIME AND FOLLOW GUIDELINES MORE STRICTLY”

xQc’s fourth ban on the platform since the site began recording its activity in 2019 is noted by StreamerBans, a service that analyses disciplinary action against broadcasters.

Twitch and NBC teamed up to provide exclusive live programming from the Olympics to the streaming site. While Twitch does not comment on individual bans, it’s likely that the suspension stemmed from him rebroadcasting the show to his thousands of followers.
Twitch has implemented a stricter stance on copyright allegations, stating that streamers who receive three or more copyright strikes will have their accounts deleted entirely. If this is a copyright strike-related prohibition, as xQc claims, it would be prudent for xQc to exercise greater caution in the future in light of the new policy. It is still unclear how long this ban will last, more updates on stories coming soon.
