Worlds 2023 Semifinals Day 1: Weibo defeats BLG to become first team to qualify for Worlds 2023 Grand Finals
Both LPL teams had an incredible League of Legends season this year and it all culminated into the best-of-5 semifinals between them.
Game 1
The series started with Weibo producing a unique draft in the first game, completely catching BLG off guard. The Rumble-Bel’Veth combo proved too much for BLG to handle as TheShy and Weiwei completely stomped them to win the game. It allowed Weibo to start with a 1-0 lead in the series.
Game 2
BLG bounced back in the second game by opting into the T1-style meta. Their double ADC bottom duo with the Varus-Ashe combo helped them get a massive lead against their Weibo counterparts. BLG secured all the map objectives on the Summoner’s Rift to snowball their lead into a secured win which helped them equalize the series 1-1 against Weibo Gaming.

Game 3
It was TheShy again who carried his team to the win in the third game. By going for the first-ever top lane Graves pick in the draft in Worlds 2023, Weibo again countered BLG. The LPL second seed did not have any answer for TheShy as he melted the enemy lineup on his highly-fed Graves in teamfights. He made sure to get this game in Weibo’s bag and move to match points in the series.
Game 4
While BLG had their backs against the wall, Weibo tried to go for some unique picks again. This probably cost them the fourth game as the Quinn pick on top lane did not work. BLG punished this strategy as they played through the bottom lane. More than the carry players it was BLG’s support ON on his Bard pick that had a massive impact on the game. BLG also moved to match point after winning this game in 28 minutes.
Game 5
It was a do-or-die situation for both teams. With the Grand Finals spot on the line, we saw both teams sticking to their respective play style in the fifth game. With their draft, Weibo’s aggressive play style proved to be too much as BLG was constantly being outplayed on too many fronts. Weibo prevented any comeback attempts from BLG and won crucial team fights, finally destroying the enemy nexus to become the first team to qualify for the LoL Worlds 2023 Grand Finals.
It could not be a better birthday gift for Xiaohu, the mid-laner for Weibo Gaming as they move to the finals. They will face the winners of the T1 vs JD Gaming series for the Summoner’s Cup. With this loss, Bilibili Gaming is eliminated from the tournament and ends their 2023 League of Legends season.
