Riot Games first confirmed Worlds venues for 2019, 2020, and 2021 in a League of Legends international tournament roadmap published in 2018, with the events taking place in Europe, China, and North America, respectively. To mark League esports’ tenth season, the original idea was for China to host Worlds 2020. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, Worlds 2021 was hosted in a closed bubble in Shanghai, with no live audience or venues until the finals, which were held at the spanking new SAIC Motor Pudong Arena, which accepted a limited public.
Greeley not only confirmed that the 2022 League of Legends World Championship will be held in North America, but he also revealed that it would be held in four cities in an interview with content creator Travis Gafford. There was no mention of which cities it would take place in, or if it would be solely in the United States, or if Canada or Mexico would be included. Greeley also discussed the plans for the 2022 LCS playoffs, revealing that the Mid-Season Showdown will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Riot had intended to hold a live event in the United States this season, and the LCS Championship Finals were set to take place at the Prudential Center in New Jersey this weekend. The event was eventually canceled due to the coronavirus, but Riot revealed today that the Prudential Center will host the 2023 LCS Championship finals.
