The League of Legends World Championship 2021 is bound to begin in a few days now. 22 teams will battle it out in a month-long race to be crowned as WORLD CHAMPIONS. Professional Esports teams from various regions would come to Reykjavík in Iceland (The host Country) for the tournament.
WORLDS 2021 was set to be hosted by China, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, the location was changed to Iceland. Regardless of the location, there can only be one winner, and the whole Esports community cannot wait to know who would clinch the trophy this year at Iceland. In this article, we will discuss the Format of the tournament, its Schedule, Qualified teams, and where to watch the matches online.
WORLDS 2021: LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2021 PLAY-INS- FORMAT AND SCHEDULE
24 Professional Esports teams were set to participate in this tournament. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, 2 teams from the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) would not take part in the tournament. The reigning VCS champions GAM Esports and the runners-up Saigon Buffalo are the two unfortunate teams that will miss out on the Worlds 2021. The tournament is divided into Play-ins, Group stage, and the final Playoffs round respectively. In this article, we will mainly focus on the Play-ins stage which is set to begin in a few days. The format and schedule are as follows:
Play-In Round 1: (5th October – 7th October 2021)
- Ten teams will be divided into two groups where they will play a Single Round Robin format.
- All the matches will be played in a Bo1.
- Top teams from each group advance to the Group Stage.
- The 2nd, 3rd, and the 4th team from each group advance to the Play-In: Round 2.
- The Bottom team from each group is eliminated.
Play-In Round 2: (8th October – 9th October 2021)
- Six teams from the Play-In: Round 1 qualify for this round.
- The 3rd and 4th placed teams of the same group from Round 1 face each other. Winners compete against the 2nd placed team of the other group.
- All the matches are played in a Bo5.
- Two winners will advance to the Group Stage.
- Four losers will be eliminated.
QUALIFIED TEAMS FOR THE PLAY-INS STAGE WORLDS 2021:
There are 10 teams that will compete in the Play-ins stage of the tournament. The qualified teams, their seeding, and roster are as follows:
Beyong Gaming: Beyond Gaming secured their spot at the worlds 2021 by finishing 1st in the Pacific Championship Series (PCS) Summer 2021. The PSG Talon Worlds 2021 Roster will include Liang, HuSha, Maoan, Doggo, and Kino.
CLOUD 9: Cloud 9 confirmed their spot for the Worlds 2021 by finishing 3rd at the League Championship Series (LCS) 2021 Summer. Their team roster for the Worlds 2021 will include Fudge, Blaber, Perkz, Zven, and Vulcan.
DETONATION FOCUSME: Detonation FocusMe confirmed their spot at the Worlds 2021 by finishing as champions of the League of Legends Japan League (LJL) Summer 2021. Detonation FocusMe’s roster for the Worlds 2021 will include Eve, Steal, Aria, Yutapon, and Gaeng.
GALATASARAY ESPORTS: Galatasaray Esports confirmed their spot at the Worlds 2021 by finishing as the champions of the Turkish Championship League (TCL) Summer 2021. Galatasaray Esports’ roster for the play-ins will include Crazy, Mojito, Bolulu, Alive, and Zergsting.
HANWHA LIFE ESPORTS: Hanwha Life Esports confirmed their spot at the Worlds 2021 by finishing 2nd at the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCL) regional finals 2021. The Hanwha Life esports roster for the Worlds 2021 will include Morgan, Willer, Chovy, Deft, and Vsta.
INFINITY: Team Infinity confirmed their spot at the World Champoionship 2021 by finishing as champions of the Liga Latinoamérica (LLA) closing 2021. Team Infinity’s roster for the Play-ins will include Buggax, Solidsnack, Cody, Whitelotus, and Ackerman.
LNG ESPORTS: LNG Esports confirmed their spot at the League of Legends World Championship 2021 by finishing 2nd at the Tencent League of Legends Pro League (LPL) Regional finals 2021. LNG Esports’ roster for the Worlds 2021 will include Ale, Tarzan, Icon, Light, and Iwandy.
PEACE: Team Peace confirmed their spot at the worlds 2021 by finishing as the champions of the League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO) split 2. Team Peace’s roster for the League of Legends World Championship 2021 will include Vizicsacsi, Babip, Tally, Violet, and Aladoric.
RED CANIDS: Team Red Canid confirmed their spot at the Worlds 2021 by finishing as the champions of the Brazilian League of Legends championship (CBLOL) split 2. Team Red Canid’s roster will include Guigo, Aegis, Grevthar, Titan, and Jojo.
UNICORNS OF LOVE: Team Unicorns of Love confirmed their spot at the worlds 2021 by finishing as the champions of the League of Legends Continental League (LCL) Summer. Team Unicorns of Love’s roster for the Worlds 2021 will include Boss, Ahahacik, Nomanz, Argonavt, and Santas.

The League of Legends World Championship 2021 has a mega prize pool of $2,225,000 USD respectively. This prize money will be divided among the top 22 teams according to the ranks they finish in at the end of the tournament.
