After their miraculous comeback in the Groups Stage, a lot of western fans were cheering for Cloud 9 to win this series and continue their Worlds 2021 journey. But Gen.G was able to overcome them with a 3-0 win and establish the domination of LCK back in the League of Legends World Championships 2021.
1st Match
Cloud 9 went with a poke-heavy lineup in the first match. Fudge picked Jarvan IV, Blaber chose Lee Sin, Perkz took Yasuo, Zven took Ziggs and Vulcan had Nautilus. Gen.G went with a balanced combination of champions. Rascal took Kennen, Clid took Xin Zhao, Bdd chose Aatrox, Ruler had Aphelios and Life picked Lulu.
While the early game was in favor of Gen.G, Cloud 9 got an Ace at the 24th minute due to Fudge’s excellent flank and closed the gap. Although Cloud 9 got a Cloud Soul Dragon, they were not able to capitalize on the opportunity. Gen.G pushed for the base at 41st minute with Baron buff and super minions and closed the game.
2nd Match
Cloud 9 was left with a disadvantage in this draft pick. They got Malphite for Fudge, Poppy for Blaber, Sylas for Perkz, Miss Fortune for Zven, and Leona for Vulcan. Gen.G took champions with burst damage like Graves on Rascal, Lee Sin on Clid, Syndra on Bdd, Jhin on Ruler, and Rakan on Life. Worlds 2021
Gen.G was aggressive from the start, getting First Blood on Perkz’s Sylas in the 3rd minute when Clid’s Lee Sin ganked the middle lane. Bdd’s Syndra also ganked top lane multiple times to shut down Fudge’s Malphite. A bad gank from Cloud 9 at the bottom lane was punished with 4 members dying in the 17th minute. The lead on Gen.G champions was enough for them to close the game in the 25th minute with a 19-4 kill score.
3rd Match
On match point, Gen.G went with a balanced composition with Rascal picking Renekton, Clid picking Lee Sin, Bdd picking Zoe, Ruler picking Jhin, and Life picking Rakan. Cloud 9 went with a burst pick with Fudge on Graves, Blaber on Jarvan IV, Perkz on Syndra, Zven on Miss Fortune, and Vulcan on Leona.
Cloud 9 was performing well in the early game but Zven’s Miss Fortune was focused and killed multiple times by Clid’s Lee Sin and Bdd’s Zoe. Thus in most team fights, Cloud 9 lacked their marksman and thus were at a disadvantage. Gen.G was in perfect flow, taking kills, winning team fights, and completing objectives on time. After getting the Mountain Soul Dragon and Baron, they were able to close the game in the 34th minute.
This final Quarter-Finals series was not as exciting as the previous three as both teams made mistakes that remained unpunished by the rival team. Still, Bdd, Ruler, and Clid played superbly which was not matched by their Cloud 9 counterparts. As the third LCK team qualifying for the Semi-Finals, Gen.G will now face EDward Gaming on 31st October while Cloud 9 will close their Worlds journey with a 5-8th place finish.
