VCT 2021 Masters Berlin: Team Envy bags a 2-0 victory in group B winner’s match. Despite facing enormous resistance on the first map, Team Envy bags a 2-0 victory in the group B winner’s match. The winner’s match of group B was to be played between the North American team Envy and the Latin American KRU Esports. Both these teams have obviously won their previous games to get here, but what’s worth noting is that on one hand, Envy had a smooth 2-0 victory whereas KRU got a 2-1 victory. This does not completely undermine one team, but it does have an impact on the upcoming matches.
Map Veto:
- KRU Esports bans Haven
- Team Envy bans Breeze
- KRU selects Icebox; Envy defends
- Envy select Ascent; KRU defends

Map 1: Icebox
The first map to be played was Icebox. Envy was to defend. The entire map was incredibly necked to the neck. Both the teams were getting alternate rounds and the lead of either of the teams never went up more than 2 rounds. Almost every single round went till the last moment. Last second rotations, fakes, and double fakes were seen throughout. As expected, the first half ended with a score of 6-6.
Both the Jetts were at the top of the table with 18 & 19 kills by the end of the 16th round. We saw the same pattern continuing in the later half as well. The score at this point was 9-7 in favor of KRU. However, things were to change from this point. Team Envy did not lose a single round from this point onwards and went ahead to claim the victory on the first map. The final score of 13-9.
Map 2: Ascent
The Ascent was team Envy’s pick and they are super comfortable in it. This was evident from the start as they won the pistol rounds and did not make any bold mistakes. At the end of the first half, we had a score of 10-2. This just showed the dominance Envy had over KRU throughout. Whether it was the sniper on the Jett Envy yay or the initiator duo of Sova and Skye, Team Envy knew what they were doing and that just showed.
Needless to say, the comeback was extremely tough. To outplay team Envy in their map when they have a momentum of 10 consecutive rounds is not everyone’s cup of tea. Not a single casual round from team Envy, and so, they reached a final score of 13-2. No signs of discomfort there. With that, team Envy became the second team to get into the quarter-finals.
