Today, Anna Donlon, the Executive Producer of VALORANT, and Whalen Rozelle, the Head of Global Esports Operations at Riot Games, announced their new roadmap for the VALORANT Champions Tour 2022. They plan to make VALORANT, especially its esports scene, more expansive by spreading it to more regions. They are also working to improve the pro-level gameplay experiences and the fan viewership experiences better than the current format.

Anna Donlon told us about some of the upcoming features in VALORANT that fans and players can witness in the upcoming seasons next year. These are:
- Getting schedules and updates for important matches in the VALORANT game client.
- Focusing on the development of esports broadcasting to make significant improvements in this sector. It will allow the production team to capture more action during the matches. The broadcasters will also be able to provide more enjoyable and significant commentary.
- Fans will also be able to support their favorite teams in multiple ways.
- To improve competition, and allow budding teams, a better opportunity to aim for pro-level, the developing team is working on a new feature set. According to Anna, it will take the players’ competitive experience to a new level. It will help them in building teams, competing beyond the Ranked games, and advancing to bigger stages of the esports scene.
These updates will be slowly rolled out and are just some of the features that are going to come out in the future.
After Anna, Whalen took over. He gave some key takeaways that fans and players can expect from the upcoming VALORANT Champions Tour 2022.
- Global level tournaments will be reintroduced into the VALORANT Champions Tour 2022. The Challengers will be played twice in the respective regions from February-March and May-June. The top teams from here will qualify for the Masters tournament that will be held in April and July respectively after each Challengers event. The VALORANT Champions 2022 will be held in September marking the end of the tour.
- The Challengers will adopt a new format. Every Challengers Split will begin with one open qualifier. After it is completed, we will advance into the main Challengers event.
- Apart from focusing on the Masters and Champions tournaments, new initiatives are also being taken to make the esports scene more vibrant and competitive. There will be new country-based leagues introduced to develop the next generation of VALORANT pro-players. These leagues will be first introduced in Europe and then in other regions of the world.
- The last three months after the VALORANT Champions in September will be used for new tournament series to keep the esports scene thriving. Similar to the Ignition series, Riot Games will work together with third-party tournament operators to create a lineup of events for this period. Both new, existing and roster-shuffling teams can participate in these off-season tournaments to test their skills and teamwork.
- VALORANT has been operating its Game Changers program by operating together with various teams, organizers, and players. Under this initiative, aspiring women who want to compete in the highest levels of esports are provided with opportunities. It has garnered huge support, especially from fans from all over the world. In 2022, a new tournament will be introduced where the best teams from the VALORANT Game Changers program will compete.
