LATAM Champions KRU Esports defeated NA top seed and Masters Reykjavik winner Sentinels in arguably Valorant esports’ biggest upset.
The Valorant Champions 2021 Berlin, which marks the end of the year-long Valorant Champions Tour, is getting hotter by the day. Not only are the Sentinels the top seed in the NA region, but they are also fan favorites to win the Valorant Champions 2021. The roster has the potential to be one of the best Valorant teams in the world. KRÜ won the lower bracket match of Group B after a hard back-and-forth best-of-three series between the two teams.

The fracture was the series’ first map, and it showcased what LATAM could do against the former Masters 1 and 2 champions. The North Americans were challenged by KRÜ, but the Sentinels won 13-7 thanks to in-game commander Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan bringing his team over the finish line.

On Haven, the closely contested series continued, with KRÜ winning seven rounds in a row to put Sentinels to the limit. NagZ’s emergence, combined with Sentinels’ Jared “zombs” Gitlin’s 7/21 KD (kills/deaths) performance, helped KRÜ win the game.
Split, the series’ last map, did not disappoint either. Sentinels had an early lead, but KRÜ rallied with a six-map win streak in the second half to bring the Latin Americans back. KRÜ managed to close out the game with a triple kill from Angelo “keznit” Mori in the final few rounds. After a feud between zombs and the Brazilian community throughout earlier rounds of the tournament, KRÜ’s victory is also a victory for Brazilian VALORANT followers. Despite Vivo Keyd’s loss to X10 earlier in the day, Sentinels’ upset provides some solace to Brazilian supporters.
