Day 2 of VALORANT Champions 2021 finally ended with lots of ups and down for fan-favorite teams like Sentinels and Gambit. After giving Gambit a taste of their own medicine on Icebox, Team Secret failed to embark on the other 2 maps. Sentinels were also seen in shaky form despite their pull of the victory.

Sentinels vs Furia Esports
In a similar tone to the first match, Stage 2 Masters champion Sentinels faced up against underdog Brazilian squad FURIA Esports in this series. The underdog established an early lead, triggering the same scenario as the first match, as FURIA won the first five rounds on Ascent. The Sentinels held their composure to tie the game around halftime and go on to win 13-9, but not without difficulty.

Whereas Gambit transformed a map one defeat into two strong map victories in the first game of the day, Sentinels were on the verge of letting this win slip through their fingers. Sentinels regained their composure on Haven and went into halftime with a commanding 9-3 advantage. Despite the rumored 9-3 curse reducing the lead to a considerably smaller 12-9, the momentum was interrupted by a technical delay, and the Sentinels finished FURIA off. Sentinels won the map 13-9, albeit it was a bit closer than most fans expected.

Team Liquid vs. KRÜ Esports
Team Liquid aimed to make an international imprint against LATAM team KRÜ Esports as the day came to a close for Group B. The first map of Haven began as such, with the sides trading blows for the first half before Team Liquid snatched a 13-5 victory.

This led to Ascent, where Team Liquid got off to a fast start and led 9-3 at halftime. However, much as in the earlier game with a 9-3 advantage, the losing side fought valiantly to tie the game. KRÜ exploited their momentum and some excellent offensive plays to cut the deficit to 12-8, but the good defense led to the day’s lone 2-0 sweep.
