Sensor Tower has once again released the list of the top-grossing mobile games of the previous month, which was April. There are three categories under this, the Google Play revenue, the App Store revenue, and the Overall revenue. In the App Store revenue and Overall revenue lists, Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile, and Genshin Impact took the top 3 spots respectively. PUBG mobile and Genshin Impact also feature in the top 10 list in the Google Play revenue list except for Honor of Kings (since the game is only available in China where the Google Play Store does not operate). From these lists provided by Sensor Tower, we can crown the top-grossing mobile game worldwide for April 2022 which is Honor of Kings from Tencent. The game has generated total revenue of approximately $274.5 million in player spending, which represented a 6.2 per cent growth from April 2021. About 96.4 per cent of Honor of Kings’ revenue was from China, followed by 1.4 per cent from Thailand and 1.4 per cent from Taiwan.
The second spot in the top-grossing mobile game worldwide for April is also held by another game from Tencent which is PUBG Mobile. This game has earned $218 million in gross revenue. About 61.7 per cent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue was from China, where it has been localized as Game For Peace, followed by 8.8 per cent from the United States. The next top-grossing game was Genshin Impact from miHoYo, followed by Candy Crush Saga from King and Roblox from Roblox Corporation.
In April 2022, the global mobile games market generated an estimated $7 billion in revenue from player spending across the App Store and Google Play, a 4.6 per cent reduction year over year. The United States was the top revenue market in April 2022, with $1.9 billion, or 27.7% of total player spending worldwide. China, where Google Play is not available, came in second with 20.4 per cent of income, followed by Japan with about 18 per cent.
