Streamer Pokimane joined Twitch in June 2013 and is now one of the platform’s most popular streams. She is now ranked 9th among the top 10 Twitch streamers in terms of total followers, was the most-watched female Twitch streamer in 2020, and was ranked 3rd in 2021 behind Amouranth and Saddummy.
Pokimane has been signed to an exclusive contract with Twitch for the past two years, and her image has graced the cover of the platform’s App Store app. She was streaming on Twitch with the sorrowful headline ‘final day of my Twitch contract…:’)’, on January 31.
Timothy “TimTheTatman” John Betar and Ludwig Aghren, two renowned Twitch streamers, signed exclusive partnerships with YouTube in 2021. TimTheTatman has been streaming on Twitch for the past two years, and during Ludwig’s subathon last year, he beat the record for most subscribers.
She could quit Twitch, preserving her current fan base and Twitch culture for the rest of 2022. Alternatively, she may join YouTube Gaming, where streamers such as Ludwig and Valkyrae have found a home in recent years, with Valkyrae confirming on Monday that she will be staying with YouTube for the next year.
It’s also possible that she’ll switch to Facebook Gaming, though this seems unlikely. Alternatively, she may give up streaming entirely and start a new business. Her large following of over 8.9 million Twitch followers and 3.8 million Twitter followers suggests that she will continue to be successful regardless of where she lands.
Pokimane will be able to investigate offers from other streaming platforms, as well as esports and gaming groups, seeking a new home for her content as a free agent. Alternatively, she could end up re-signing with Twitch. Fans will have to wait until February 8th for Pokimane to make an official declaration about the future of her feed.
