Sony PlayStation is being sued for £5 billion due to claims of ‘ripping off’ almost 9 million UK customers – There has been a new lawsuit filed against Sony’s PlayStation due to a claim that the company has been “ripping off” its customers in the United Kingdom. It alleges that Sony has been selling overpriced games and providing higher-priced in-game services.
In this lawsuit (worth about £5 billion), over nine million customers from the UK had pointed out that Sony is charging up to 30 percent in commission for digital games and in-game purchases in the last six years. This collective lawsuit has been filed by the consumer rights advocate, Alex Neill. He will be representing all the customers affected due to this issue.

In an interview with Sky News, Neill says, “With this legal action I am standing up for the millions of UK people who have been unwittingly overcharged. We believe Sony has abused its position and ripped off its customers.”

Neill also went on to say that Sony’s greedy actions have hurt “millions of people who can’t afford it, particularly.” He also stresses that it has become even more disastrous as people have been living through a crisis for the past two years and their purses are being squeezed more and more.
According to him, anybody who is a resident of the United Kingdom and has bought digital games or other in-game services after Aug. 19 2016 is a victim under this lawsuit. People who have purchased any digital games/products from the PlayStation Store in this time period may be eligible to receive compensation.
Natasha Perman is one of the leading partners of this lawsuit against Sony’s PlayStation. She has also pointed out that Sony has been creating an “anti-competitive strategy” as it dominates the digital distribution of PlayStation games and in-game content. Its anti-competitive strategy has led to customers being charged exorbitantly, which is out of proportion considering the costs of Sony providing its services.
Sony has still not released any official statement considering this issue. Stay tuned as we bring to you more of such latest news and updates from the gaming universe.
