Saudi Arabia announces “Gamers without borders” event featuring Pubg Mobile and other games

Saudi Arabia government has come up with an outstanding initiative to fight against COVID 19 and help the organisations with some donations. This time they have decided to bring esports industry together by starting a league “Gamerswithoutborders” featuring a $10 million prize pool. All the money will be donated to select charities chosen by the winners of a share of the prize pool. The teams can select from the following organisations –

  • World Health Organisation
  • King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Fund
  • Direct Relief
  • GAVI – The Vaccine Alliance

The event will feature various titles held over 7 weeks started from April 24 to June 7. Besides the competitions, Gamers Without Borders is also creating a learning opportunity. A learning academy “will be launched offering a series of training programs, prized hackathons and webinars targeted at developers, gamers, investors, and entrepreneurs”. Moreover, the events will focus on digital and gaming insight with game development and esports knowledge.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, chairman of the Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports (SAFEIS), said: “In this difficult period where the world feels more disconnected and distant than ever before, we are extremely proud that, through Gamers Without Borders, our Kingdom will unite and connect the global gaming community in response to Covid-19 and ultimately help save lives.”

SAFEIS has taken ESL onboard that will help them to organise the event with ease. Being an international event all players across the globe can participate in the various tournament. The tournaments range from weekly marathons that feature over 150 tournaments to “games of the week”, having “more than 20 different tournaments”. With these tournaments, the event will feature Six International Elite Tournaments for each week.

The first International Elite tournament weekend will feature Pubg Mobile where the teams will battle it out $1.5M out of US$10M prize fund.

FORMAT

The Pubg Mobile event will start from May 2nd-5th that will feature 16 teams from Europe, CIS and MENA regions and South Asia and South-East Asia regions respectively.

ASIA

  • Date – May 4th – 5th, 2020
  • 16 invited Teams from South Asia and SEA
  • Total of 12 Matches
  • Prize pool – $32,000 USD are spread among the 16 teams equally

An extra $750,000 USD will be donated to a charity of the winning team’s choice distributed among the top 8 teams.

EMEA

  • Date – May 2nd – 3rd, 2020
  • 16 invited Teams from EU, CIS and MENA
  • Total of 12 Matches
  • Prize pool – $32,000 USD are spread among the 16 teams equally

An extra $750,000 USD will be donated to a charity of the winning team’s choice distributed among the top 8 teams.
