Rocket League Sideswipe has been downloaded 20 million times in 40 days- The video game from Psyonix accumulated over 20 million downloads in 40 days after it was launched in November. Based on the data collected by App Annie, Rocket League Sideswipe was the third most downloaded mobile game worldwide during December 2021, behind Free Fire and Subway Surfers. For the last month of the year, the game was the most downloaded game in the UK and the US.
The Game is currently free to download, and there are no ads or in-app purchases. As a result of the decision not to monetize the game from launch, more players get attracted to the wider Rocket League ecosystem, including through crossover events that reward players who link their accounts between platforms.

Synergistic approach
As an example, Rocket League Sideswipe was downloaded 2.8 million times on the Play Store during a Rocket League in-game event on December 16, an increase of 13 percent over the previous week. Among the top countries for Android downloads in December were India, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and the US.
Though Sideswipe is free, players can still get cosmetics and cosmetic loot boxes through the in-game loot boxes and season pass. Epic Games may decide to monetize these features in order to match the current monetization strategy of its PC/console counterpart.
Sideswipe’s developers discuss why they thought the mobile-exclusive title would appeal both to casual gamers and non-Rocket League fans.
