PEL 2021 Season 3 got postponed due to the new Chinese gaming directive. Today, Tencent and VSPN have announced that the ongoing regular season of Peace Elite League aka PEL 2021 Season 3 has been postponed for one week. The reason behind this postponement is the new Chinese Gaming directive which prevents minors from playing games for a long time in a day.
The new Chinese gaming directive poses a danger to children under the age of 18, which may discourage them from playing online games. A Chinese government directive has previously been released, which limits kids to 3 hours of online gaming a week, and there is now the possibility that players under 18 will be prohibited from playing online games.
The decision will impact many professional athletes and teams including these biggies:
- Zhang Jianhui (Regans Gaming )
- Zhang Youquan (Four Angry Men)
- Tao Lupeng aka 86 (JD Esports)
In order to promote physical activity, the government took this decision. Children under 18 have been subjected to these rules. This new rule may prohibit children from playing online games altogether if it passes, as previously they were allowed to play them for just one hour each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Peace Elite League made an announcement,
“Announcing adjustments to the Peace Elite Professional League. As required by the latest policy, the Peace Elite Professional League will check the age of contestants in compliance with the spirit of the document. We regret to inform you that the third week of the PEL 2021S3 regular season, originally scheduled for September 2-5, will be held from September 9 to September 12. Thanks to the special forces for their cooperation and understanding. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
Why are there new rules?
Considering the deteriorating health of Chinese children, the government has strengthened its policy. Parents are concerned about their children’s health. According to government officials, the new rules are a direct result of this. In the recent reign of terror against technology companies, gaming restrictions form part of the ongoing crackdown.
Affect on the Gaming industry:
In response to the new regulation, the share price of all online gaming companies listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange has decreased. There were several questions raised by the government media earlier this month regarding the gaming industry. As a result of these bans, gaming companies have suffered greatly.
