Online Gaming Ban: Madhya Pradesh government to ban online gaming in the state soon following a tragic incident – Following the alleged suicide of an 11-year-old boy, while playing an online game, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said on November 20 that the state’s administration is considering enacting legislation to control online gambling in the state.

With the rising popularity of gaming in India, the level of addiction in youngsters is also seen to increase. And this has led to various tragic incidents ranging from violence to suicides. A similar case was recently registered in Madhya Pradesh where an 11-year-old boy committed suicide resulting from his immense involvement in online games. This has led the Madhya Pradesh government to take stick steps to curb such incidents, in this case, to ban online gaming in that state.

According to the news agency PTI, the following statement was released by Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on 20 November, “We will be making amendments in the public gambling act and a law to regulate online gaming platforms will be introduced soon,” Narottam Mishra pointed out. Mishra cited an increase in cases of children becoming addicted to internet gaming and said that the state administration announced plans to introduce legislation to control mobile gaming applications in January of this year.

He told the reporters that he was working on a proposal for the ban and said it would be covered by the law. Additionally, a letter to the Committee of Senior Secretaries about the Gambling Act has been sent. The cabinet will then be presented with the proposal after this. A governing organisation for online games is also being considered, according to Mishra.

With two of the biggest online gaming titles, PUBG Mobile and Free Fire banned in India, it apparently seemed to have reduced tragic incidents and addiction in children. However, that’s not the case as banning or putting permanent restrictions on any activity doesn’t really help much. Instead, if gaming or such activities are regulated properly, the current scenario may improve.
