Online Gaming Ban in Tamil Nadu: Cabinet passes an ordinance to ban online gaming with stake in Tamil Nadu – Another state has targeted online gaming apps with stake (Gambling/Money making games) to protect its smartphone users.  After Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu becomes the latest Indian state to take action in this direction.

With India ranking second in the number of smartphone users across the globe, many also spend their time using online gaming apps. While normal gaming apps provide users with a nice source of entertainment, it is the predatory gaming apps with stake that can cause addiction.

Today, the Tamil Nadu Cabinet headed by the Chief Minister Mr. MK Stalin approved an Ordinance that will ban online gaming apps with stake inside the state. The Ordinance has yet to come into effect as it now waits for the approval of the Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. RN Ravi.

The ads of such online gaming apps with stake give a message that it is very easy to earn money through online games. But they are highly predatory and can cause addiction, especially among impressionable young children and teenagers.

The central and state governments have been targeting such mobile games lately to curb increasing addiction among young users. Andhra Pradesh had also taken a step to ban online gaming with stake back in October 2020.

Such strong moves by the local governments will act as warnings for online gambling/money-making games and their companies. The governments should also bring in necessary laws addressing this issue so that the Indian people can stay protected from such predatory activities.
