ONE Esports MPL Invitational 2021: Blacklist International and ONIC Esports win their respective Semi-Final series and advance to the Grand-Finals. As we started the final day of the ONE Esports MPL Invitational 2021, four teams battled in the Semi-Finals to advance further into the tournament and fight for the championship in the Grand-Finals. Blacklist International took on RRQ Hoshi while ONIC Esports battled Alter Ego in the Semi-Finals. Here is an overview of how it all went down.

Semi-Finals 1: Blacklist International vs RRQ Hoshi

In the first match of the best of 3 series, Blacklist went with a crowd control lineup with Kagura, Alice, Paquito, Barats, and Rafaela while RRQ picked burst heroes like Aldous, Lancelot, Luo Yi, Esmeralda, and Floryn. Blacklist was able to take team fights, punish RRQ heroes and delay their farming. RRQ tried to fight for objectives when Lancelot and Aldous reached late game but Blacklist was more clinical with their gameplay and they won the game in the 17th minute with a 14-4 kill score.

In the second match, Blacklist went with a similar crowd control hero lineup with Paquito, Alice, Chou, Rafaela, and Karina. RRQ took the double marksman and mage lineup with Yi Sun Shin, Bruno, Yve, Esmeralda, and Baxia. The extra range and damage from their hero pick helped RRQ to gain an advantage over the Blacklist crowd control heroes and punish them in the team fights. RRQ ended the game quickly in the 13th minute with a 14-2 kill score.

The 3rd match saw both teams picking a good combination of crowd control and damage heroes. RRQ picked Hylos, Pharsa. Yi Sun Shin, Brody, and Paquito while Blacklist went with Clint, Rafaela, Esmeralda, Chou, and Bane. Blacklist made a lead in both kills and goals since the early game but RRQ did not give up. They fought back valiantly and almost caught up to Blacklist. But in the end, it was Blacklist who wiped out RRQ and ended the game in the 23rd minute with a 20-14 kill score. They qualified for the Grand-Finals with this.

Semi-Finals 2: ONIC Esports vs Alter Ego

In the first match, Alter Ego went with Paquito, Ruby, Khaleed, Lylia, and Natan. ONIC Esports picked Jawhead, Brody, Yi Sun Shin, Cecilion, and Yu Zhong. Alter Ego were ahead in the early game due to their crowd control heroes but ONIC was able to come on top of team fights from the mid-game while also winning the major objectives. The two marksmen and Cecilion combo in the late game allowed ONIC to win the game in the 20th minute with a 14-5 kill score.

In the second match, Alter Ego went with Lapu-Lapu, Khaleed, Yi Sun Shin, Lylia, and Mathilda. ONIC picked Floryn, Pharsa, Esmeralda, Paquito and Wan Wan. ONIC’s engagement potential was higher than that of Alter Ego’s heroes and it could be seen in their playstyle. ONIC was able to easily push through the base by the 13th minute with an 11-5 kill score and qualify for the finals with a 2-0 win in the series.
