Game 1
Gen.G had a dominant start in the series. They played the first game perfectly and secured all map objectives. While none of the two teams had a sizeable lead in the early game, Gen.G was able to gain momentum in the mid-game thanks to winning crucial team fights. C9 was not able to defend their base and Gen.G won the game in 27 minutes.
Game 2
Gen.G out-drafted C9 by picking Vex on their star mid-laner Chovy. This pick proved to be C9’s weakness as the LCS first seed was not able to stop Gen.G from jumping to their backline. C9 looked helpless as Gen.G rolled over their base and ended the game within 25 minutes.
Game 3
With their backs against the wall, C9 picked their comfort champions to compete against Gen.G. But the LCK first seed shut down their comeback attempts and completely outplayed them on the map. The beatdown ultimately ended with Gen.G closing the game in 26 minutes and registering a 3-0 clean sweep against C9.
With this victory, Gen.G moves to the Lower Bracket Semifinals where they will face Bilibili Gaming next. Unfortunately for Cloud9, their journey at MSI 2023 ends after their loss in the Lower Bracket. None of the western teams remain in the tournament now.
