MPL Invitational 2021: Four teams proceed to the next stage of ONE Esports MPL Invitational 2021
1st Quarter-Finals Series: Team SMG vs RRQ Hoshi
RRQ Hoshi had already defeated juggernauts like EVOS Legends and ONIC PH in the Group Stage and continued their great form against Team SMG. In the first match, SMG was outperformed by RRQ in all aspects and RRQ closed the game at 11 minutes with a 17-4 kill score. In the second match, RRQ came on top in every team fight and punished SMG’s late-game heroes. RRQ won this match also within 15 minutes with a 14-4 kill score and became the first team to qualify for the Semi-Finals.
2nd Quarter-Finals Series: EVOS Singapore vs Alter Ego
In the first match, EVOS Singapore was able to get an early game lead but Alter Ego (AE) bounced back and won the game within 15 minutes with a 20-10 kill score. In the second match, EVOS SG fought back hard against AE’s aggression but they were finally defeated in the 17th minute with a 22-13 kill score by AE. Alter Ego became the second team to advance to the Semi-Finals.
3rd Quarter-Final Series: Blacklist International vs Bigetron Alpha
The first game was a close one with Bigetron Alpha’s (BTR) Fanny pick successfully putting pressure and giving them a lead on Blacklist International (BLCK) in the early and mid-game. But BLCK persevered and came back in the late game by winning crucial team fights against BTR. BLCK ended the game at 25 minutes after crushing BTR’s defense. The second match was favorable for BLCK as they maintained the lead they got against BTR since the early game. The game was won by BLCK in the 16th minute with an 8-2 kill score and they successfully advanced to the Semi-Finals.
4th Quarter-Finals Series: Resurgence Philippines vs ONIC Esports
This was the only series that went to the 3rd game. In the first game, Resurgence Philippines (RSG PH) played aggressively with Uranus pick and ONIC Esports had to always play on the backfoot. While ONIC managed to stop the lead from getting too large, RSG PH was able to win the game in the 17th minute with a 13-10 kill score. In the second game, ONIC went with a crowd control heavy draft to punish RSG PH’s mobility hero picks. It helped ONIC to gain a lead in the mid-game and they won it just before the 13th minute with a 7-4 kill score. In the last game, ONIC found their MPL Indonesia champion form as they dictated the pace of the game entirely. ONIC ended the game in the 16th minute with a 17-6 kill score against RSG PH and became the last team to qualify for the Semi-Finals.
Conclusion
We have the 4 Semi-Finalists who will battle it out on 7th November in a best of 3 series. Blacklist International will go against RRQ Hoshi while ONIC Esports will go against Alter Ego. The winners will then fight for the ONE Esports MPL Invitational 2021 Championship in the Grand Finals later on the same day.
