Mobile Legends Developer Moonton sued Tencent for copyright infringement – In a move likely to turn heads, Mobile Legends creator Moonton from ByteDance is taking legal actions against Tencent. Let us know what exactly the matter is. Turns out Moonton claims Tencent is infringing on his Mobile Legends: Bang Bang IP; a copyright infringement case on that. Alleged violations include copyright, communication, and reproduction rights related to the game title.
Riot Games filed a case in May, this year saying that their content and materials from the game league of legends and League of Legends: Wild Rift have been copied by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

Mobile Legends Developer Moonton sued Tencent for copyright infringement
Tencent claimed that Mobile Legends infringed its League of Legends and Honor of Kings IP. In fact, Riot Games (owner Tencent) accused Moonton of copyright infringement for its mobile game League of Legends: Wild Rift in a US court, but this case was not successful. The United States District Court for the Central District of California closed the Riot Games’ copyright infringement lawsuit against Moonton Technology earlier in November.
Both Tencent and Moonton have a lot of money, so this copyright infringement case may take some time to resolve. To put things more straightforward:
- Moonton is valued at $4 billion after being bought by ByteDance, who is the owner of TikTok.
- Tencent’s Honor of Kings of Valor which has earned $1.99 billion in 2022 all by itself.
Rest assured that these copyright infringement lawsuits from both companies that themselves created games that are clearly inspired by Dota and League of Legends (except for mobile devices) aren’t going away for a very long time. The court case will begin on 29th November through the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court. I think we will have to wait for a very long time to get some conclusion on this case.
