Madhya Pradesh set to organize the first ever state-sponsored BGMI tournament in India – On July 12, the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare of Madhya Pradesh Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia, announced the establishment of an esports academy in the state. But the state government is now going a step ahead and had decided to organize the first-ever state esports tournament in Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). Madhya Pradesh set to organize first ever state-sponsored BGMI tournament in India
Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia considers esports to be a future medal event in the Olympics. She told that India had already won the bronze medal in the esports events of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and is also set to participate in the upcoming esports events at Asian Games. Hence, it is imperative to train the youth in this field so that they can compete in international events for the country.
Who can register for the MP State Junior Esports Championship and how?
The registrations for the MP State Junior Esports Championship have begun. It is first ever esports tournament in BGMI to be held by a state in India. The aim of this tournament is to unearth budding esports talent among the young population and hence only participants in the 12 to 17 years age group category can register.
If you meet the requirements and are interested, use this link to register for the MP State Junior Esports Championship. The registrations for the tournament will close on July 23. The tournament will be conducted from July 27 till Aug. 7.
As per the announcement, the top gamers that perform well in this tournament will be selected by the Department of Sports & Youth Welfare and shall join the MP State Esports Academy. This talent search initiative was announced by the department back on July 13.
Among the gamers selected by Madhya Pradesh’s Department of Sports & Youth Welfare, 80 percent will be chosen from within the state. The remaining 20 percent of gamers will be chosen from other states in India.
According to the MP government, it will allow them to nurture both local and nationwide esports talent in a balanced way. The selected esports athletes shall receive 12 months of intensive coaching, guidance, and top-quality esports education for free of cost. This program will be available in both online and offline mediums.
