LPL Summer Finals 2023: JDG become champions, continue Golden Road to Worlds
Being the LPL Spring and Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) champions of 2023, JDG were the favorites going into this tournament. But LNG gave their best performance and showcased why they were able to reach the Grand Finals of LPL Summer 2023.
Game 1
In the first game of the series, LNG had a maintained a slight lead over JDG in the early and mid-portion of the game. Unfortunately, JDG managed to turn the tables as soon as their carry players, Knight and Ruler, were able to get core items for their champions. They played teamfights perfectly and destroyed LNG’s nexus in 28 minutes to take a lead.

Game 2
In the second game, both teams decided to play around map objectives more. Although JDG got a quick Ocean Dragon Soul and looked like in command, LNG was able to continuously win team fights and turn the match around. JDG even managed to steal the second Baron Nashor but got team wiped soon and lost the game in 29 minutes.
Game 3
Riding on their winning momentum from the previous game, LNG completely dominated JDG in the third game. Scout and Zika played beautifully in team fights, destroying enemy champions quickly while their teammates created opportunities for them. It was a quick win for LNG as they destroyed JDG’s nexus in 24 minutes.

Game 4
With their backs against the wall, JDG was able outperform LNG in the fourth game and equalize the series. Their draft looked better with JDG players getting their signature champions—Knight’s Ahri, 369’s Gragas, and Ruler’s Xayah. They were able to outplay LNG and in the team fight for the first Baron Nashor, JDG aced LNG and were able to push forward to end the game in 25 minutes.
Game 5
In the final game of the series, it was Knight’s Neeko pick that helped JDG close out the game. From bursting LNG players quickly to providing much needed flank opportunities, he played a crucial role in stopping most plays of the enemy side. Kanavi also secured almost every map objective to give his team an edge in team fights, eventually allowing JDG to close out the game in 34 minutes.
JDG have won back-to-back LPL titles in 2023, as well as the Mid-Season Invitational a few months back. They will have to win the League of Legends World Championship 2023 to complete the first-ever grand slam in the history of the game. With this win, JDG and BLG have become the two teams to qualify for Worlds from China.
