It is not the first time that South Korea has held an international League of Legends tournament. The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2022 was held in Busan, while the Worlds 2018 and 2014 were also held in the country.
With a new format and 22 teams, the LoL Worlds 2023 will have three stages.
- Play-In Stage: This round will be held from Oct. 10 to 15 at LoL Park in Seoul.
- Swiss Stage: This round will be held in two parts — from Oct. 19 to 23 and from Oct. 26 to 29 at KBS Arena in Seoul.
- Knockouts: This will be the final stage that will include the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals of LoL Worlds 2023.
- Quarterfinals and Semifinals: The Quarterfinals will be held from Nov. 2 to 5 and Semifinals will be held from Nov. 11 and 12. Both of them will be hosted in Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan.
- Grand Finals: It will be held on Nov. 19 in the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. That location is the largest indoor venue in the country and the home to the Seoul-based baseball team, Kiwoom Heroes.
The LoL Worlds 2023 has been scheduled later than usual by Riot Games this year because of the 19th Asian Games that will be held from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8 in Hangzhou, China. In the Asian Games, League of Legends and six other esports games will be featured as medal events for the first time. The shift will help LoL Esports pro players to adjust and compete in the Asian Games.
The tickets for the 2023 World Championship will be sold to League fans in three waves. The Play-In Stage tickets will go on sale July 10, while the Swiss Stage tickets will go on sale July 19. The Knockout Stage tickets will be available on sale from Aug. 2.
