LoL Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage Day 8: NRG and T1 take down juggernauts to qualify for Quarterfinals
The first series was between the LCS and LEC first seeds, NRG and G2. In the second series, T1 competed with BLG for the quarterfinal spot.
G2 ESPORTS vs NRG
G2 were the favorites coming into the series and many fans were expecting them to cruise over to the quarterfinals. But NRG silenced all critics and doubters with their performance against G2. The LCS first seed came prepared and outclassed G2 in almost every aspect of the series. NRG took the first game thanks to their meta-defining Senna-Tahm Kench champion picks which caught G2 off guard.
In the second game, G2 tried to counter NRG’s champions but were unable to execute these plays in the game. NRG steamrolled them to create a huge 2-0 upset over G2 and advance to the quarterfinals. They keep the hopes of the North American and Western League fans alive in the tournament.

T1 vs BILIBILI GAMING
This was the highlight series of the day where fans expected both teams to give their all and compete. While both games in the series were close and intense, it was T1 who outshined BLG to secure a 2-0 victory. T1 was better prepared and was always able to counter BLG’s plays.
Despite the valiant effort by BLG’s Bin and Elk, the two could not help their team get even a single victory. In front of the supporting home crowd, T1 were able to showcase their best performance in Worlds 2023 yet and qualify for the quarterfinals.
DRAW FOR SWISS STAGE 2-2 POOL
After the conclusion of today’s series, the draw for the teams that fall in the 2-2 pool was conducted. These are the 6 remaining teams in the LoL Worlds 2023 tournament and only 3 can advance to quarterfinals from them. Here are the results of the draw show for this pool.
- Dplus KIA vs KT Rolster
- G2 Esports vs Bilibili Gaming
- Weibo Gaming vs Fnatic
European fans were horrified seeing this matchup as there is a chance for none of the LEC teams to qualify for the quarterfinals if both G2 and Fnatic lose to the more solid-looking LPL teams. Korean fans were also disheartened with the Dplus and KT matchup since now only 3 confirmed teams would be able to advance to the next stage. Both LPL teams have a chance to redeem their losses if they can win in their next series.
