LoL Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage Day 2: Major regional clashes set the tone on second day of Worlds Swiss Stage
The 16 teams were drafted into two groups according to win/loss results yesterday. There were a lot of matchups between teams from the same region.
NRG vs TEAM LIQUID
The Swiss Stage Round 2 started with the matchup between the two LCS teams. Contrary to yesterday’s performance, Team Liquid played worse than expectations. NRG’s Senna and Tahm Kench picks seemed to have disrupted all of Liquid’s plans and the 2023 LCS Summer champions closed the game in 31 minutes to get their first win in the tournament.
CLOUD9 vs LNG ESPORTS
This match was mired with more pauses than actual game play. While both teams were playing to their strengths, some issues in the C9 camp caused long pauses and even a chronobreak implementation. After the game resumed, LNG crushed C9’s momentum with their better team fight executions. They won the game in 32 minutes to give LPL its first win of the day.

MAD LIONS vs TEAM BDS
Both teams had faced each other multiple times in LEC and it worked in MAD’s favor today. They banned all of BDS Adam’s unique champs and answered with their own surprising Bel’veth pick. It allowed MAD to play aggressively from the start and build up quite a lead as the game progressed. Despite BDS’s comeback attempts, MAD were able to shut them down and win the game in 31 minutes.
FNATIC vs GAM ESPORTS
Fnatic completely eclipsed GAM in this match. From drafts to their performance, Fnatic bested GAM in all departments to secure the game in their favor. This was the quickest match of Swiss Stage Day 2 with Fnatic taking only 24 minutes to win the game.
GEN.G vs T1
This was the rematch of the LCK regional tournaments and the result of this matchup also came out to be the same. While T1 had a good start, they were always looking disjointed in their plays which allowed Gen.G to take command of the game. As soon as their champions hit the power spike, Gen.G increased their tempo and decimated T1 to close the game in 29 minutes.

G2 ESPORTS vs WEIBO GAMING
This was the most-hyped up game of the day. In the early part of the game, Weibo took the lead and at one point it seemed they would win the match easily. But G2 fought valiantly and thanks to the incredible performances by their carry players Caps, Hans sama, and Broken Blade, they were able to turn the tables. By the late game, the match had an incredible 49 total kills and G2 looked unstoppable. They won in 38 minutes and gave hope to all western League fans.
JD GAMING vs BILIBILI GAMING
Similar to the LCK Finals matchup earlier, this was LPL version where everyone knew JDG would win. And that’s what happened with BLG again failing to counter any of JDG’s plays. We saw meticulous strategies and incredible plays from JDG which proved why they are the favorites to win Worlds title in 2023. JDG closed the game in quick 24 minutes to continues their undefeated streak.
DPLUS KIA vs KT ROLSTER
Despite having last year’s World champion on their roster, Dplus KIA’s performance has not been good. In a similar fashion to yesterday, they again lost to KT in the last game of the day. Their draft did not work and KT fully punished them with their counter tactics. While KT players stepped up to bag the game in 32 minutes, Dplus’ lack lustre performance will worry all fans.
