On the first round of the Swiss Stage, there were 8 best-of-1 matches held between the 16 teams. Here is how everything went down.
T1 vs TEAM LIQUID
Team Liquid had a strong start in the first series of the Swiss Stage Round 1. They were able to fight toe-to-toe with T1 and even maintain a lead for a significant portion of the match thanks to their Worlds champion jungler Pyosik. CLOUD9 vs MAD LIONS
Many League fans were anticipating the much awaited North America vs Europe rivalry. The C9 and MAD series gave them just that. Fans saw some solid gameplay from Cloud9 as they gained momentum and destroyed MAD’s nexus in 30 minutes. C9 had better macro and teamfight strategies that allowed them to close the game so smoothly, giving LCS its only win on Swiss Stage Day 1.
GAM ESPORTS vs GEN.G
This match was a one-sided stomp by Gen.G. GAM Esports had looked shaky when they qualified from the Play-Ins and Gen.G exploited this weakness. From the draft to the performance on the Summoner’s Rift, Gen.G outclassed GAM and won their match in 22 minutes. It was the fastest match of the day.
JD GAMING vs TEAM BDS
BDS had the momentum in their favor as they had entered Swiss stage by qualifying from Play-Ins. But they fell short in front of the tournament favorites—JDG. While BDS had a lead in the early game, JDG were able to overpower them by winning team fights and securing important map objectives. JDG’s superb coordination helped them close the game in their favor in 27 minutes.

DPLUS KIA vs G2 ESPORTS
This was the most hyped series of the day. The EU favorites G2 Esports took on LCK’s DPlus KIA. Both teams performed to the best of their abilities and the match swung in between them constantly. It was G2 who broke the stalemate with their better engages and winning crucial team fights. G2 was able to win the match after a long 42 minutes and give LEC region its only win of the day.
NRG vs WEIBO GAMING
While NRG was LCS’ first seed coming into the series, everyone considered Weibo the favorites despite being LPL fourth seed. And this proved true as Weibo players slowly outclassed NRG by securing almost every map objective. Weibo won the match in 29 minutes, thanks to the incredible performance by Weiwei and Light.
LNG ESPORTS vs FNATIC
We saw LNG cruise over Fnatic in this match. Although the LEC second seed tried to turn the tables by constantly engaging, LNG performed better. Scout was the star player of this series on his Azir pick. He went deathless and got an amazing 11/0/7 KDA to win the game for his team in 29 minutes.
BILIBILI GAMING vs KT ROLSTER
League fans saw the top-class gameplay performance during the BLG vs KT series. Both teams gave their all and produced many incredible plays to swing the match in their favor. Ultimately, it was BLG’s Bin who created crucial opportunities for engage and allowed his team to win team fights in the late game. BLG won the match in 45 minutes, making it the longest of Swiss Stage Day 1. With this win, all 4 LPL teams managed to advance to the second round of the Swiss Stage.
