LoL Worlds 2023 Quarterfinals Day 2: BLG deny Gen.G’s reverse sweep and advance to Semifinals
On Quarterfinals Day 1, the first best-of-5 series was played between Gen.G and Bilibili Gaming.
Game 1
The series started with a banger with BLG showcasing why they are such a strong team in the tournament. They punished Gen.G’s late game draft with their own picks and were able to snowball the game away from the LCK team. All 5 players from BLG played better than their counterparts, securing all map objectives and winning the match in 29 minutes to get a 1-0 lead.
Game 2
BLG crushed Gen.G in the second game. They outperformed their LCK opponents in drafting, map rotations, laning phase, and team fights. The pressure also got to the Gen.G players as we saw them making uncharacteristic mistakes multiple times, each getting punished by BLG. It was a hard stomp as BLG closed the game in their favor in 28 minutes.

Game 3
It was a do-or-die situation for Gen.G and they rose up to the occasion in the third game. Despite BLG getting a slight lead in the early to mid-game, Gen.G held on and was able to make a comeback thanks to some incredible performances from Doran and Peyz. This match became the longest game of the Worlds 2023 tournament yet and Gen.G won it, taking the series score to 1-2.
Game 4
Game 4 had a similar story to the previous one but this time, Gen.G got some comfort champion picks like Rumble, Akali, and Rell this time. This helped them turn the game in their favor a lot quicker than the previous game against BLG. With the LPL team failing to capitalize on their mid-game lead, Gen.G ambushed them multiple times in the late game, allowing them to win the game in 35 minutes and equalize the series 2-2.
Game 5
With both teams on match point, this silver scrapes game was the ultimate test for them. BLG started strong as usual by getting crucial early-game objectives on the Summoner’s Rift. Gen.G took the lead away in the mid-game by engaging and winning team fights against them. But this strategy also backfired as BLG focused on securing the key to bounce back.
This triggered some hasty plays from Gen.G and they got punished by BLG. The LCK first-seed tried all tricks to turn the tide but they were unable to against a more-coordinated BLG side. It all came crashing down with BLG destroying Gen.G’s nexus in 33 minutes. The LPL second seed won the series by 3-2 and will advance to the LoL Worlds 2023 semifinals where they will face Weibo Gaming next.
