Game 1
Going into the first match, NRG started with their own comfortable Senna-Tahm Kench picks. It helped them gain a lead in the early and mid-game but they were not able to push forward with it. Weibo managed to stall their onslaught and bounced back in the late game when their own champions had scaled over NRG’s. The tide turned completely from there and the LPL fourth seed closed the game in 39 minutes to get a 1-0 lead in the series.
Game 2
Weibo’s carry players TheShy, Light, and Xiaohu got a huge confidence boost from the win in the previous game and they performed even better in the second match. The trio completely decimated NRG’s lineups, never allowing the LCS first seed to gain a gold lead throughout the game. After getting the Mountain Soul and second Baron Nashor, Weibo was able to close the game in 33 minutes
Game 3
NRG looked completely shaken after their loss in the first two games. Despite trying out a new draft, their performance only plummeted against a steamrolling Weibo squad. NRG made mistakes from the early game and each one got punished by Weibo’s superior teamwork. By closing out the game in 26 minutes, Weibo Gaming cleanly swept NRG by 3-0 in the series and became the first team to reach the Worlds 2023 Semifinals.
All five Weibo Gaming players performed their best today to win the series by such a large margin and advance forward in the tournament. TheShy, Light, and xiaohu seemed to have recovered their form and will be a force to look out for in this stage. While NRG looked competitive in the first match, the loss might have shaken them a bit too much and their performance fell from there. Not even one player from the LCS team showcased could outperform their opponents, resulting in such a drastic defeat.
Tomorrow, there will be an epic LCK vs LPL clash as Gen.G will take on Bilibili Gaming in the second Quarterfinals of the tournament. Stay tuned with us to get the latest updates regarding League of Legends and the ongoing Worlds 2023 tournament.
