LoL Worlds 2022: The defending champions and the last team from VCS make it to the tournament

LoL Worlds 2022: The defending champions and the last team from VCS make it to the tournament – The LPL Regional Qualifier kicked off today and the third seed from the region was finally confirmed. It was EDward Gaming (or EDG), the 2020 world champions, who finally made it to the tournament. On the other hand, GAM Esports become the second team to qualify for Worlds from the VCS region. Let us take a look at both of these teams.

LoL Worlds 2022: EDward Gaming joins as LPL third seed

EDG has become the third team to qualify for the League of Legends World Championship 2022. They competed against their nemesis, Royal Never Give Up (RNG) in an intense best-of-five series at the 2022 LPL Regional Qualifier.

Although RNG had a strong start by winning back-to-back games, EDG was able to pull off an incredible reverse sweep to win the series by 3-2. They have qualified directly to the group stage and will get the chance to defend their world champions title at the tournament.

LoL Worlds 2022: GAM Esports joins as VCS representative

After Saigon Buffalo qualified for LoL Worlds 2022 by reaching grand finals of the VCS Summer split, GAM Esports becomes the second team to do the same from this region.

They clean swept Team Secret by 3-0 in the lower bracket final to qualify for the grand finals. Here they will have a rematch against Saigon Buffalo for the VCS Summer title.

Currently, both Saigon and GAM have qualified for the Worlds Play-In stage. Out of the two, the team that wins the VCS Summer title will directly qualify for the group stage while the runner-up will have to compete in the play-ins.

With the addition of these two teams, we now have 15 teams that have qualified for LoL Worlds 2022. They are:

  • LPL – JD Gaming, Top Esports, EDward Gaming
  • LCK – Gen.G, T1, DWG KIA
  • LEC – G2 Esports, Rogue, MAD Lions
  • LCS – 100 Thieves, Cloud9
  • VCS – Saigon Buffalo, GAM Esports
  • LLA – Isurus
  • PCS – CTBC Flying Oyster
