LoL Worlds 2022: Format and schedule of 2022 League of Legends World Championship – The League of Legends 2022 World Championship begins on Sept. 29. A total of 24 teams will come together to participate in the largest esports event of the year. Let us take a look at the format and schedule of the upcoming tournament.
LoL Worlds 2022: Format
The tournament will be divided into three stages – Play-Ins, Groups, and Knockouts.
Play-In Stage: 12 teams will fight here so that they can make it to the Group stage. There will be two groups of 6 teams. Out of the 12, only 4 will advance further in the tournament.
- It will consist of the first-seeded teams from CBLOL (LOUD), LJL (DetonatioN FocusMe), LCO (Chief Esports Club), LLA (Isurus), and TCL (Istanbul Wildcats).
- There will also be second-seeded teams from PCS (Beyond Gaming) and VCS (Saigon Buffalo).
- The third-seeded teams from LCS (Evil Geniuses) and LEC (Fnatic) will also participate here.
- Finally, the fourth-seeded teams from LEC (MAD Lions), LPL (Royal Never Give Up), and LCK (DRX).

Group Stage: There will be 16 teams (12 directly qualified and 4 from Play-Ins) in this stage. There will be four groups, each having 4 teams. A total of 8 teams will advance to the Knockout stage from here.
- It will consist of the top 3 seeded teams from LCK (Gen.G, T1, and DWG KIA) and LPL (JDG, Top Esports, and EDG).
- There will also be the top 2 seeded teams from LEC (Rogue and G2) and LCS (Cloud9 and 100 Thieves)
- Top seeded teams from the PCS (CTBC) and VCS (GAM Esports) will also participate here.
- Finally, 4 teams that have qualified from the Play-Ins will also get to join them.

Knockout Stage: The remaining 8 teams will compete in a best-of-5 single elimination bracket. It will be followed throughout the stage, from the quarterfinals, and semifinals, to the grand finals of the tournament. The winner will be crowned the World Champions of 2022.

- The second part will run from Oct. 13 till 16.
- Knockout Stage: This stage will be held in three parts.
