LoL Demacia Cup 2021: Top Esports make a heroic comeback to beat FunPlus Phoenix in the Grand Finals
1st Game
In the first game, Top Esports picked Ornn, Lee Sin, Viktor, Jinx, and Thresh while FunPlus Phoenix went with Gwen, Xin Zhao, Caitlyn, Lux, and Viktor. Both teams were quite close throughout the game. While FPX took objectives like Dragon and first Baron to gain a lead, Top was able to persevere and come back by stealing the second Baron. Finally, in the fight for the Elder Dragon, FPX aced Top and closed the game in the 35th minute Jixwith a 16-5 kill score.
2nd Game
Top picked Lux, Caitlyn, Ryze, Jarvan IV, and Renekton while FPX went with Gwen, Talon, Orianna, Jhin, and Leona. FPX had many successful ganks but they were also shut down by Top in multiple over-aggressive gameplays. After many backs and forth team fights, FPX was successful in pushing through the defense of the Top base with the help of the second Baron buff. Even after the buff expired, FPX won the game in the 32nd minute with a 22-9 kill score.
3rd Game
At match point, FPX picked Gwen, Trundle, Viktor, Jinx, and Thresh. On the other hand, it was a do-or-die match for Top Esports and they went with a late-game lineup of Jayce, Viego, Zoe, Aphelios, and Leona. Although Top played aggressively, FPX also engaged them on equal grounds in teamfights. Ultimately it was the Jungle difference as Viego was more effective in team fights for Top while FPX’s Trundle went without any kills. Top Esports won the game in the 28th minute with a 23-10 kill score.
4th Game
In this game, Top picked Tryndamere, Viego, Renekton, Ziggs, and Leona while FPX picked Jayce, Jarvan IV, Orianna, Jinx, and Thresh. Top Esports played better in this game as they continuously picked off FPX’s scaling heroes. This prevented Jinx, Jayce, and Orianna from getting a lead over their respective laners. FPX was able to stay in the game by taking Soul Hextech Dragon. But Top successfully got the Baron and Elder Dragon to finally close the game in the 32nd minute with a 21-13 kill score.
5th Game
With both teams at the match point, FPX picked Jax, Xin Zhao, Akali, Aphelios, and Thresh. The top went with Camille, Viego, Twisted Fate, Ziggs, and Leona. Both teams played safely in the early game as the first blood went to Top Esports in the 7th minute. The top was more clinical in team fights as they picked off multiple kills on FPX while trading only a little. The entire Top lineup was perfect as they were able to zone out or kill FPX champions before the latter could respond. With such a lead, Top won the match in the 25th minute with a 16-6 kill score.
Conclusion
This was a good comeback from Top Esports as the organization had a disappointing year on the international stage. We hope we see more such gameplay from this roster. FunPlus Phoenix is still struggling to capitalize over their leads as it was evident throughout this year. As the new year starts, let us see how they work on this.
