Game 1
Excel had to face the wrath of the G2 Caps and Hans sama in the first game of the series. Both players were able to get their comfort champion picks in the draft phase and were able to single handedly carry the team to the finish line. Excel failed to compete with any of G2’s carries and fell back as the game progressed. G2 closed the game in 25 minutes to take a lead in the series.
Game 2
In the second game of the series, G2’s Yike and Brokenblade stepped up to win the match for their team. The jungler-top duo outshined their enemy counterparts in securing objectives and team fights. Despite Excel trying their best and managing to extend the game to nearly 37 minutes, their ADC Patrik had fallen behind so much to G2’s ADC Hans sama that he was never able to catch up.
Game 3
Just one game away from winning the series and G2 decided to end it with a glorious performance. All members of G2 played their best and ended the game in just 23 minutes, the fastest time of the LEC Summer 2023 Playoffs. Excel looked exhausted and downtrodden as they failed to resist G2’s aggressiveness and lost the game and the series.
G2 Esports have been crowned as the LEC Summer 2023 champions. They have won two splits in this year and will advance to the Season Finals tournament with their head held high. It looks almost guaranteed that they will qualify for League of Legends World Championship 2023 as LEC’s first seed if they continue to play with this form and confidence.
Although they lost to G2 in such heartbreaking fashion, the Excel team must still feel proud of making it to the Grand Finals after ranking back-to-back 10th places in the previous two splits. They must perform better in the LEC Season Finals if they want to qualify for Worlds.
