League of Legends VCS Winter 2021: CERBERUS Esports win their first Major Split tournament
1st Game
In the first game, GAM picked Talon, Jax, Corki, Tristana, and Leona. CERBERUS went with Nautilus, Aphelios, Viktor, Jarvan IV, and Renekton. While CERBERUS was ahead in kills, GAM focused on objectives like Dragons and Baron. This allowed GAM to take a gold lead which they were able to convert into a win in the 29th minute.
2nd Game
Here GAM picked Camille, Karthus, Renekton, Tristana, and Leona while CERBERUS went with Nami, Lucien, Viktor, Lee Sin, and Ornn. The Karthus pick did not work for GAM. CERBERUS’s Lee Sin was more effective and deadly in team fights and taking objectives. This helped CERBERUS to win the game just before the 27th minute with a 16-7 kill score.
3rd Game
For this game, CERBERUS picked Tahm Kench, Jarvan IV, Twisted Fate, Samira, and Alistar. GAM went with Gwen, Lee Sin, Galio, Kalista, and Rell. Both teams played aggressively and the gold lead moved back and forth in the early game. CERBERUS were ahead in kills while GAM won Dragon objectives. CERBERUS almost finished the game by taking down all the bottom turrets and also the Nexus turrets. But GAM was able to turn the tables by acing the entire CERBERUS lineup. They then took the Elder Dragon, Baron, and went on to win the game in the 35th minute with a 24-23 kill score.
4th Game
At match point, GAM picked the same lineup, just changing Kalista for Tristana. CERBERUS went with Tahm Kench, Viego, Twisted Fate, Alistar, and Vayne. CERBERUS played aggressively while GAM went for map objectives. GAM was unfortunately aced in the team fight for the 5th Dragon and CERBERUS closed the game just before 29 minutes with a 17-6 kill score.
5th Game
With both teams at match point, CERBERUS picked Urgot, Viego, Vex, Tristana, and Alistar. GAM picked Renekton, Talon, Orianna, Rell, and Kai’sa. With both teams playing aggressively and diving under turrets, the match swayed towards both sides. CERBERUS were finally able to flank GAM in the middle lane and wipe out 4 of their members. With this, they closed the game in the 34th minute with a 17-12 kill score.
Conclusion
Both League of Legends teams played well throughout the series and it was their mistakes that cost them the games. GAM Esports will be disheartened as they will not be able to win both the Splits of the Vietnam region in 2021. It is the first Major Split win for CERBERUS Esports and they will hope to continue this form in 2022.
