JDG moves to MSI 2023 Grand Finals after taking down T1 in Banger series

On May 18, the LPL first seed JDG faced off against the LPL second seed T1. Both teams have been in top form in the tournament and it was the first matchup between teams from the two major rival regions.

Game 1

JDG started the series on a strong note. They played patiently in the early part of the game and only started team fights after their ADC Ruler became stronger. T1 was completely outplayed and could not do anything against JDG’s onslaught. JDG took the first game in 28 minutes and secured a 1-0 lead in the series.

Game 2

Although both teams looked equally competitive in the second game, the tables got turned on JDG after they lost a crucial team fight in the 23rd minute. T1 capitalized on this mistake by rushing toward the enemy nexus and destroying it. It helped them to equalize the series.

Game 3

It was a similar story in game three. Both teams focused on farming in the early stage and started competing for objectives as the game progressed. Unfortunately for JDG, they again lost to T1 in a crucial team fight which allowed the LCK second seed to close the game in 23 minutes.

Game 4

With their backs against the wall, it was JDG’s Kanavi who gave his best performance to carry his team. His Wukong pick was able to continuously threaten T1’s backline. His 6/0/9 KDA showcases the important role he played in helping JDG win this game and reach silver scrapes.

Game 5

The last game of the series became the decider match to determine who will move toward the Grand Finals. JDG had a good start in the early game and looked determined to capitalize on it. But heroic plays from T1’s Zeus and Gumayusi allowed the LCK second seed to make a comeback and even gain an advantage.

But JDG patiently held on and continuously looked for opportunities. The LPL first seed eventually outplayed T1 to close the game and win the series by 3-2.

With this victory, JDG moves to the Grand Finals of the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational which will take place on May 21. Meanwhile, T1 falls down to the Lower Bracket where they will face the winner between the BLG and Gen.G series.
