The City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Alok Sharma said that the incident took place on Monday. Some reports also suggest that the boy had an internet addiction as well as a mobile gaming addiction. According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, the following things came to the light.
- The father had been unable to recharge the mobile data pack of his son’s smartphone for a couple of days.
- The reason was that the deceased boy’s father is a labourer. Hence, the financial condition of the family was not good.
Unfortunately, the number of suicide cases in minors who are struggling with internet addiction, mobile gaming addiction, social media addiction, etc have been on the rise in our country. A week ago on April 12, a 17-year-old boy allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan after he was scolded by his father for spending long hours with his mobile phone in the Nandigama area of Hyderabad.
The main issue here is kids becoming too dependent on the internet and other such digital solutions from quite a young age. Hence when they are reprimanded for their addicting behaviour or cannot get access to these things, some of them take the foolhardy and extreme step of committing suicide. While the internet and other digital services can be considered important innovations, it is the responsibility of parents to teach their kids that these things are just tools. Parents must also help their children develop hobbies like reading, gardening, finding collectables, learning music, etc that can occupy their free time. This will prevent their children from becoming too engrossed with online addiction. Gaming Addiction
