IEM Rio Major 2022 Overview: Format, Teams, Schedule, and more details –The CS: GO Majors, one of the most historic events in the game’s esports calendar, will set foot in Brazil for the first time this year. The Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio Major 2022 will be the second Major of 2022 sponsored by Valve and will feature the top 24 teams in the world competing for their share of the $1,250,000 prize pool.
IEM Rio Major 2022 will kick off its Challengers Stage on October 31, 2022, with the tournament’s grand final scheduled for November 13. The Challengers and Legends stages of the tournament will be held live at the Riocentro, while the Champions Stage will take place at the Jeunesse Arena.
Qualification for the upcoming IEM Rio Major 2022 was determined using a format similar to recent Majors. Teams had to succeed against their regional competition at various RMR events to secure a spot for the upcoming tournament. The slot distribution for each of them is as follows:
- 6 slots (3 Contenders, 2 Challengers, 1 Legend): America
- 16 slots (3 Contenders, 6 Challenger, 7 Legends): Europe
- 2 slots (2 contestants): Asia Pacific
IEM Rio Major 2022: FORMAT
Teams will have to compete in three different stages in their attempts to claim the IEM Rio Major 2022 trophy.
Challengers stage
During this stage, the 8 CS: GO teams that have qualified as Contenders will compete alongside the 8 Challengers in a Swiss system format. All matches will be played as a best-of-one series, except for the elimination and promotion matches, which will be played as a best of three.
Legends Stage
In The Legends Stage, the top 8 teams from the previous stage will compete against the 8 Legends teams, also in a Swiss system format. Similar to The Challengers Stage, the best of three series will feature only elimination and promotion matches and others as best of one series
Champions stage
In this stage, the top 8 teams from The Legends Stage will compete in a single elimination group until the grand finale of the tournament decides the winner. All matches in this phase will be the best of the three.
