G2 Esports set to join VCT Americas after acquiring The Guard’s roster – After getting denied a VCT Americas spot due to the Carlos-Andrew Tate debacle last year, G2 Esports will be joining the scene in the next season with a familiar roster. They have picked up ex-The Guard VALORANT’s team and will be entering VCT Americas in their place. Let us take a look at all the information we have on this incident.
G2 Esports set to join VCT Americas after acquiring The Guard’s roster
The VCT Americas scene had been in a turmoil in the past months. The Guard was stopped from entering the VCT Americas by Riot Games because of failing to agree on the Team Participation Agreement. The VALORANT community rallied together and asked Riot to give the players another chance.

It seems as if Riot Games have heard their pleas as they have allowed G2 Esports to pick up The Guard’s roster and participate in the Americas tournament in their place. On Sept. 23, VALORANT’s esports handle officially announced the G2 Esports as the 11th team joining the VCT Americas.
G2 Esports have signed 5 out of the 6 members from The Guard’s team. They are:
- Josh “JoshRT” Lee (Coach)
- Jonah “JonahP” Pulice
- Michael “neT” Bernet
- Trent “trent” Cairns
- Jacob “valyn” Batio
The organization is still looking for a fifth player to join their new VALORANT squad since they did not sign Ian ‘tex’ Botsch, who announced on Sept. 10 that he is looking for a new team to join. They will compete in VCT Americas for the next two seasons, similar to what was promised to the Ascension tournament winning roster.

G2 Esports CEO Alban Dechelotte told Dot Esports that G2 beat out competition from nearly 17 organizations that made offers to the The Guard’s team. According to Dot Esports’ report, G2 Esports has signed a two-year contract with the players. But a provision of extending the contract has also been added if the organization manages to enter into a full-time partnership in VCT Americas, giving them a permanent slot.
Many VALORANT fans are excited to see G2 perform on the grand stage in VCT Americas. They have high hopes from the team since both the roster and the organization have had stellar record in esports.
