In February 2021, Garena revealed the annual esports plans for Free Fire. Garena announced to host two seasons of the Free Fire World Series this year. Besides this, they will also host an All-Stars event. Last year during the Covid-19 pandemic, Garena hosted Free Fire Continental Series. Free Fire Continental Series took place in three regions -South Asia, Americas and EMEA.

The first edition of the Free Fire World Series will feature 22 teams that came across 14 different regions all over the world. These 22 teams seeded into two parts, Play-Ins and Finals where the top 2 teams from Play-Ins will qualify for Finals. Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore have a massive prize pool of $2,000,000 USD where Champion will get $500,000 USD.
