Chinese organisation FunPlus Phoenix has disbanded its European VALORANT team after failing to win a position in the Valorant Partners league, the team stated in November of last year. The team’s achievements included taking first place at the VCT 2022: Stage Two Masters in Copenhagen and finishing fourth at the VALORANT Champions 2022, the highest-level competition yet. Almost all members of the former FPX lineup now play under the banner of the Ukrainian organization Natus Vincere or NaVi, a team that will play in the VCT EMEA League 2023. “As VALORANT has been set to launch in China, ZHUQUE will take over the banner of FPX VALORANT and continue to compete in the VALORANT esports scene under the name of FPX. Our path to VALORANT was never easy, but now, we’re ready to set foot on a new adventure!” said FPX in a statement.
The release of a Riot Games game in China was announced on December 28. As a result, national gaming servers will be constructed, enabling the development and growth of the local scene. Up until this point, Chinese players could connect to other servers using a VPN.
The Chinese scene is set to begin, therefore this will be a fantastic chance for a team that hasn’t had much luck finding a franchise abroad.
