The main accused in this case has been identified as Amir Khan, S/O Nesar Ahmed Khan. He had launched a fraudulent mobile gaming application called E-Nuggets that first lured users by giving them high rewards and then stopping them from withdrawing in later stages.
“During the initial period, the users were rewarded with the commission and the balance in the wallet could be withdrawn hassle-free,” the agency had said. “This provided initial confidence among users, and they started investing bigger amounts for a greater percentage of commission and a greater number of purchase orders.”
“After collecting a handsome amount from the public, all of a sudden, the withdrawal from the said app, was stopped, at one or the other pretext viz. system upgradation, an investigation by LEAs, etc. Thereafter, all data, including profile information, was wiped off from the said app servers, and only then the users understood the ploy,” ED told the media.
According to reports, officials from the Reserve Bank of India and State Bank of India reached the premises carrying eight cash counting machines. The location is said to be the residence of a businessman in Garden Reach. During the time of the raid, the government body had also deployed central forces outside Nisar Ahmed Khan’s residence.
