Dr Disrespect has asserted that Bethesda, the developers behind Starfield, declined his sponsorship request to promote the game’s launch, citing his “past controversies” as the reason.
The popular streamer, known for his vibrant presence in multiplayer games like Call of Duty Warzone and CSGO, has been involved in several controversies throughout his career. This ranges from being banned on Twitch to a recent incident related to the NICKMERCS Call of Duty skin.
Despite these controversies, Dr Disrespect maintains a significant following and wields influence within the gaming community. He was eager to work with Bethesda and had been vocal about his anticipation for Starfield, even though he typically focuses on multiplayer games.
However, Dr Disrespect was taken aback when he noticed pronoun options in the character creation screen of Starfield. In a livestream, he expressed his surprise and playfully jabbed at Pete Hines, Bethesda’s head of publishing, for including pronouns in his Twitter bio.

Look at my words being taken out of context here. Their insecurities are obvious.

Around the 1:05:30 mark in the VoD, Dr Disrespect remarked, “He/him… Got it, ok. Now everything’s starting to make sense.” He then claimed that Bethesda directly rejected his sponsorship request.
According to Dr Disrespect, he had been actively promoting Starfield for some time and had reached out to Bethesda for a potential collaboration. However, he alleged that Bethesda declined the offer, citing his past controversies as the reason. He also requested early access to the game to align with other streamers, but this request was similarly denied on the same grounds.
“I just gotta get it off my chest. Obviously, we’ve been hyping up [Starfield] for a very long time. We’ve been making it very vocal, right champs? We had our team reach out, ‘Hey, can we work with you, can we do something?’” the streamer said. “‘Due to past controversies, there’s no way we can work with Dr Disrespect.’”
Despite his grievances, Dr Disrespect played Starfield for over nine hours during his stream and expressed his admiration for the game’s vast scale and content. However, he clearly harbours some reservations about Bethesda.
Dr Disrespect later addressed the clip, stating that he feels his words were “taken out of context” in response to claims of transphobia and online backlash. Bethesda has yet to comment on whether they had such an interaction with Dr Disrespect or confirm the direct refusal of his sponsorship request.
