and it has sucked her in heavily. After getting drawn back into roleplaying, the YouTube star admits she has a “problem” and has no plans to stop anytime soon. In terms of streaming popularity, at least, GTA RP has its ups and downs. When it rains, though, it really rains.
GTA V, which debuted in September 2013, was far and by the most popular game on Twitch in 2021. The growth of NoPixel and other roleplaying servers, as well as the involvement of celebrities, sparked all of this activity.
Valkyrae has been zipping through space. She’s hooked, line, and sinker now. Since re-signing with the Google-owned network two weeks ago, the YouTube star has sunk dozens of hours into GTA RP, and it’s starting to become a “problem.” Even if it isn’t a big deal, the star can’t help but laugh at it.
“Streaming GTA, watching GTA streams, dreaming about GTA, listening to GTA music on the way to meet GTA friends, then streaming GTA after. I admit I have a problem,” she said on Twitter. The enthusiasm — and addiction — has also been fueled by a shift in her view toward GTA RP.
“It makes me feel like I’m watching a reality show, and it’s hilarious.” It’s insane, and honestly, I believe the difference between now and when I last played GTA is that I’ve made so many friends and am more at ease,” she said on stream.
“Last time I was relying on Chang Gang to be online to feel okay because I was relying on Sykkuno to hang out with me in-game. He became a part of a whole other gang, doing his own thing, and I realized ‘I don’t have anyone to play with and I was too scared to talk to people.
“This time I’m just pushing myself and I’m so glad I am.”
Onstream, she’s just watching videos and maybe playing some Valorant, but she’s also stepping into the NoPixel world as Ray Mond and hanging out with some of the biggest personalities in streaming.
She expressed her delight in the streams on social media, writing, “GTA V RP has been pure hilarity, very delighted to be part of it!” The streams have been crazy.”
Valkyrae isn’t the only one that is currently addicted to GTA RP. GTA RP is presently the second most popular game on Twitch in 2021, after League of Legends. Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel and Sykkuno, to name two, have been playing more frequently. Since January 1, it has been seen over 150 million times. It’s unclear when Valkyrae’s GTA RP itch will be entirely satisfied, but she’s back, along with a slew of other broadcasters, and the roleplaying community is thriving once more.
