Delhi Soccer Association is the First Sports Organization to Venture Esports in India, Rise of Esports in India: Soccer Delhi, commonly known as the Delhi Soccer Association, is the official soccer regulating body for India’s capital, Delhi. It has recently announced that it will be entering the esports market.
Irony Inc., an esports company that focuses on building community-first esports packages, has teamed with the governing body. This agreement will build the “Gamers of Delhi” community, which will serve as a gaming platform for football and gaming fans in Delhi.
Football Delhi in their statement said “This relationship will develop the ‘Gamers of Delhi’ community, which will serve as a gaming platform for football and gaming fans in Delhi. The main worldwide football leagues, associations, and teams have all launched their plans to involve the youth through esports, with Gen Z and millennials spending a significant amount of time playing games and consuming esports material.”
Irony Co-Founders Ankit Bhatia and Tushaar Garg remarked, “We are really happy to be teaming with Football Delhi. “We are happy to assist Football Delhi in developing a complete gaming and esports program that will strive to introduce new audiences to the beautiful game in the state of Delhi,” they added.
Soccer Delhi will become India’s first sporting organization to not only acknowledge gaming but also venture into esports. Given a large number of players in India, this is unquestionably a significant step forward. We recently reported that India, after China, had the world’s second-largest population of online video game players.
Though online and multiplayer gaming has existed in India for decades, it took off with the introduction of low-cost internet and cheaply priced cellphones. Although laptop gaming is still a niche market in India, mobile gaming has taken off in a big way, which is how India became acquainted with some of the world’s biggest gaming businesses.
