Damwon KIA, the Korean league’s champion the previous two seasons, advanced to the finals LCK 2021 Summer Split. The experienced squad began to wait for their opponent in the grand final after handily defeating Nongshim RedForce 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Nongshim RedForce, who had the most consistent performance during the regular season, finished third in the league and was drawn in the first round against Afreeca Freecs. Despite losing badly in the first match, the NS squad, led by Peanut, did not lose sight of the series and defeated AF 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals.

The Damwon team, on the other hand, was still reeling from the disappointment of their season-opening loss to MSI. Malrang was the jungler, Canyon was the mid laner, and Showmaker was the shooter in Damwon, the most recent Worlds champion, who also lost matches to lower-ranked teams. DWG finished the summer season as the league leader with its winning run after putting aside the hunt for other solutions and reverting to the games that led them to the championship twice in a row in the second half of the league.

The champion pool and individual talent disparity between the two teams were on display in the semi-finals. Against Nongshim RedForce, who can always produce a comeback opportunity, Damwon maintained control throughout the matches and did not allow their opponent to build a lead. The three-match series’ summary images may be seen here.

The winner of the T1 vs GEN series will be Damwon Gaming’s grand final opponent. Despite Liiv’s less-than-perfect performance against SANDBOX in the previous round, T1 rendered his opponent defenseless. The GEN team, on the other hand, has been chastised in prior seasons for failing to show up against DWG. In a series where both teams can win, we may claim that the T1 team has a better chance versus Damwon.
