CS: GO Esports 2022 Recap: Here is all about the 2022 Season of Counter Strike Global Offensive – This year was a blast as we have seen a lot of amazing CS: GO tournaments. Many tournaments have happened in CS: GO, but this time I’m only going to talk about three main events which were the ESL Challengers Melbourne 2022, ESL Challengers Rotterdam 2022, and the IEM Rio Major 2022. The ESL Challengers Melbourne started from 2nd September 2022 to 4th September 2022. The ESL challengers in Rotterdam started from 14th October to 16th October 2022. The IEM Rio Major started from 31st October to 13th November 2022.

ESL Challenger Melbourne
Let’s first talk about ESL Challenger in Melbourne. This tournament has a group stage and playoffs before the finals. In the group stage, the format was a double-elimination format and each group had four participants and consisted of two groups. There were a total of five matches in each group; the opening and winner matches are best of series one matches and the Elimination and decider matches are best of series three matches.
The top two teams from each group advanced to the playoffs. All the playoff matches were single-elimination matches and were played in best-of-series 3 matches. The prize pool of the event was $100,000. paiN Gaming won the title and got the prize money of $50,000. The airtime of the event was approximately 33 hours and the total watch hours were 1.25 million hours. The peak viewer time was in the finals when approximately 11k people watched it.
ESL Challengers Rotterdam
Now let’s talk about the ESL Challengers at Rotterdam. This tournament has a group stage and playoffs before the finals. In the group stage, the format was a double-elimination format and each group had four participants and consisted of two groups. There were a total of five matches in each group; the opening and winner matches are best of series one matches and the Elimination and decider matches are best of series three matches.
The top two teams from each group advanced to the playoffs. All the playoff matches were single-elimination matches and were played in the best of series 3 matches. The prize pool of the event was $100,000. The Outsiders won the tournament and got the prize money of $50,000 also they qualified for the EPL Conference Season 17. The airtime of the event was approximately 36 hours and the total watch hours were 1.1 million hours. The peak viewer time was the semi-finals when approximately 71k people watched it.
Rio Majors 2022
Finally, it’s time for Rio Majors 2022, one of the biggest CS: GO events of all time. This tournament has three stages: the challengers, the legends, and the Champions Stage. In this the Challenger and the legends stage is almost the same, all the matches were in a 16-team Swiss system format. The elimination and the advancement matches were the best of series three matches and the rest were the best of series one matches.
The top 8 teams proceed to the next stage; the challengers’ top teams moved to the legends and the legends stage top teams were moved to the champions stage. In the Challengers Stage, the matches were single-elimination brackets and all the matches were the best of series three matches. This event has a huge prize pool of $1,250,000. This time also Outsiders won the title and got the prize pool of $500,000. The airtime of the event was approximately 127 hours and the total watch hours were 69.5 million hours. The peak viewer time was the semi-finals when approximately 1.4 million people watched it.
So this is all about CS: GO this year. Next year IEM Brazil is going to happen in April with an estimated prize pool of $250,000. Hopefully next will also be as exciting as this year.
