Chinese Valorant Teams got a Chance to Represent in Valorant Champions

China will be able to compete in the Valorant Champions Tour now that the country has been admitted to the competitive circuit. Riot Games has announced the East Asia qualifiers, which will serve as a path to Valorant Champions for Chinese teams. The top two teams from the East Asia qualifiers will compete for a spot in the world tournament later this year against the top teams from South Korea and Japan.

Valorant had a hesitant start in China, with the game’s release still pending due to the country’s licencing requirements. However, Valorant Champions 2022 will provide the powerhouse esports area with its first shot on the international scene, with a road to qualifying for the East Asia Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) in August.

Two Chinese teams from a “third-party tournament” will compete in the eight-team tournament against three Korean teams and three Japanese teams, according to Riot. The East Asia LCQ winner will compete in Valorant Champions 2022.

Valorant East Asia LCQ pathway

After VCT Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen, the LCQ candidates from Japan and Korea will be chosen depending on the number of VCT circuit points they have accumulated. The Chinese teams, on the other hand, will be chosen based on previous results at third-party competitions like the FGC Valorant Invitational. However, it is far from guaranteed that a Chinese team would compete at Valorant Champions, the VCT season’s premier tournament. A Chinese team would have to win the whole LCQ to qualify. Since the end of 2020, Chinese teams have competed in domestic Valorant contests, with non-VCT games featuring Korean and Japanese teams on occasion.

Riot Games is currently not sponsoring any of the events taking place in China. It’s unclear how China will fit into the competitive scene now that Riot Games is transitioning to a franchised league system starting next year. Riot Games has yet to divulge any details on next year’s structure for any area, and we’ll presumably learn more when this year’s Champions event concludes.
