The majority of Stunlock Studios’ shares have been acquired by Tencent. Tencent will continue to provide strategic support to Stunlock Studios in the future, while the company continues to develop games without changing its corporate structure. Tencent and Stunlock Studios first collaborated to release Battlerite in China in 2016, and the two companies have been working together since then. Tencent paid $4 million in Stunlock Studios in exchange for a 31 percent interest, making it the studio’s largest controlling party.
“It’s an honour to represent the world’s largest game company from the little Swedish town of Skövde. Tencent’s recent investment demonstrates their faith in our ability to develop high-quality games with a strong emphasis on gameplay. It will allow us to accomplish our great vision for V Rising, our current game in development, as well as assist us in future projects, allowing us to expand long-term as a studio,” stated Rickard Frisegrd, CEO of Stunlock Studios.
Michelle Liu, CEO of Tencent Games Global, said, “We’ve known – and been quite pleased by – Stunlock for a long time.” “We will continue to seek out partnerships with the world’s most skilled development teams in order to deliver the highest-quality games to market.”
