CALTECH and Activision Publishing joining hands against Bad Behaviour on the internet- Caltech and Activision together have taken a step against bad behavior online. This is a huge problem on the internet whether it’s trolling, racism, sexism, doxing, or just general harassment. As this kind of toxic behavior makes the internet an unpleasant place. Previously there have been a lot of attempts to make sure that people behave properly online.
In the early days, websites had moderators who were trained to keep discussions and content civil and appropriate. As time goes the content on the internet becomes more harmful and extremely unpleasant. And now the moderators are not enough for this. So after seeing this increasingly online world is going to move towards automated moderation tools which will identify abusive words and behaviors.
CALTECH and Activision Publishing joining hands against Bad Behaviour on the internet
Caltech’s two researchers; one is an expert in AI and the other is a political scientist, are joining hands with Activision. In the next two years, they are aiming to create an AI system that will detect abusive words, bad behaviors, and trolling online to help the company’s support and moderation teams to combat it.
“Over the past few years, our collaboration with Anima Anandkumar’s group has been very productive,” Alvarez says (the political scientist), one of the researchers. “We have learned a great deal about how to use large data and deep learning to identify toxic conversation and behavior. This new direction, with our colleagues at Activision, allows us to apply what we have learned to study toxic behavior in a new and important area—gaming.”
For Anandkumar (the AI expert), the important questions this research will answer are: “How do we enable AI that is transparent, beneficial to society, and free of biases?” and “How do we ensure a safe gaming environment for everyone?”
She also said that working with Activision will help them to understand how internet trolling happens and it will give them a lot of data and knowledge. Let us see how much this AI will help to control this bad behavior on the Internet.
